HPAF Announces 2017 Staff Changes

May 14, 2017

Hawai’i Performing Arts Festival announces the appointment of Justin John Moniz to the position of Associate Executive Director. Winner of numerous awards and a doctoral candidate at Florida State University,  Mr. Moniz will collaborate with Executive Director Genette Freeman, who states “Justin is emerging as one of the industry’s most notable and innovative young leaders. Our growing festival will benefit.”

Sherri Bennett Herring assumes the role of General Manager and is responsible for the day to day workings of the summer festival.  She is a consummate professional who has served HPAF ably since 2013.  She is Associate Director at Los Angeles-based Da Camera Society which presents classical music concerts in historic venues.

Shayna Leahy heads our 2017 production and transportation team, under the guidance of Valerie Wheeler.  Shayna is an experienced stage and production manager with Opera Wichita.

Having just completed her masters in arts administration at Indiana University, Courtney Baugh returns for her third year as Assistant to the Executive Director in charge of housing, development, and contracts.

HPAF is bringing two interns studying arts administration, Emma Penny of the College of Charleston and Trista Mudd of the University of Kentucky, as well as staff assistant Chelsea Waite of Wichita Grand Opera.

Artistic Director Val Underwood states, “We’ve assembled a great team for this summer’s festival.  The best ever! It will be a fantastic summer.”
