Training and Performance In One of the World's Most Inspirational Environments
The Hawaii Performing Arts Festival's Vocal Program offers a comprehensive and intensive study program with an exceptional faculty. Works to be performed in 2010 include
- Peter Brook’s The Tragedy of Carmen
- Maurice Ravel’s L’enfant et les Sortileges
- And much more
The vocal faculty and staff at HPAF include some of the finest teachers and coaches in the country. Students receive ample individual attention in voice lessons, coaching, acting, dance/movement, diction, as well as Master classes and Alexander Technique. This intensive training program culiminates in performance opportunities for students at all levels.
The Vocal Program offers training at three levels, as explained below.
Levels of Participation
Professional Fellows July 7-27 Participants must have completed a recognized young artist program or demonstrate equivalent level of expertise.
Developing Artist July 7-27 (full session) or July 7-17 (half session) For entering college sophomores through graduate school and post-grad level. (Singers in their 30s will be considered for this level based on audition) Developing Artists may attend the full 21-day session or choose to attend Session A Only. For maximum training and performance opportunities, attending the entire 21 day session is highly recommended. Participants must exhibit musical and technical proficiency in advanced, age-appropriate repertoire.
Young Singer July 7-27 (full session) or July 7-18 (half session) Age 13 through entering college freshmen. (Singers younger than 15 will be considered based on audition) Young Singers may attend the full 21-day session or choose to attend Session A Only. For maximum training and performance opportunities, attending the entire 21 day session is highly recommended.
