Airfare and ground transportation are not included.
All participants will need airport transfer and transportation to events and concerts. Hawai'i Island is called The Big Island with good reason. Students under 21 or those who do not wish to drive will need to purchase ground transportation on festival buses and vans. Festival-provided transportation is scheduled in advance for students to attend festival recreational events and concerts. This is not a shuttle service, and all trips must be scheduled in advance.
After being accepted to the festival, in order to secure your position, a $750 deposit is required within two weeks. All festival tuition and fees are due by date to be announced.
To pay your application fee, deposit or tuition by check, please mail to: Sarah Swisher, 6483 S Florence Way, Englewood, CO 80111.
To pay using a credit card, contact sarah.hpaf@gmail.com or freemangenette@gmail.com. Do not send credit card information by email. There will be a 5% service fee assessed for credit card transactions.
Can I get financial assistance?
Funds available for financial aid are extremely limited. Students who need help attending the festival are encouraged to first try community and family sources for assistance.
The first step toward getting aid is to apply for admission and be accepted to the festival by auditioning in person, emailing us a recording, or by recommendation from an HPAF faculty member. The festival's limited scholarship funds are awarded based on three criteria:
- Merit
- Financial need
- Needs of the festival
Students receiving financial aid are required to participate in work-study programs.
Why should I spend this on a summer program?
Our fee covers all instruction, room and board, recreational activities, and admission to all concerts. Our daily rate represents an excellent value considering Hawai'i is one of the most popular tropical vacation destinations in the world. Hotel rooms costing less than $200 per night are rare. Young artists receive complete room and board, unforgettable touring and recreation, plus top quality musical instruction and performance opportunities for about $150 per day.
HPAF provides superior instruction with an accomplished faculty of renowned professional artists and teachers from top music schools around the world. Students attending the festival will encounter many gifted peers who will inspire them to their best performances. Many will form lifelong friendships and lasting networks. Students will progress to the next level musically and vocally.
How can I cut costs?
Share car rental costs. Ask for help from school, sponsors, family, community groups and your place of employment. Ask your teacher (or faculty member from HPAF) about scholarship competitions in your area. Perform a fundraising concert. Explore your options with frequent flier miles. Start saving now. A summer at the Hawai'i Performing Arts Festival makes a wonderful gift!
