Students will share rooms segregated by age and gender in dormitories and houses at Hawai'i Preparatory Academy, which sits on a large, beautiful campus of green rolling hills in north Hawai'i. For more information about the HPA campus, go to www.hpa.edu. HPA is a nonsmoking campus. The climate in Waimea is ever-changing but usually very comfortable.  It is warm, but not blistering hot, and is humid…often there is a misting rain in the afternoon. Straddling the Kohala mountains, a 15-minute drive to the east takes you to the rain forest at Waipio Valley; 15 minutes in the other direction puts you in a string of beautiful white sand beaches along the Kohala Coast.

The little town of Waimea offers boutique shopping, many fine restaurants and inns, several grocery stores, and a health food store.  There is very little night life.

Better shopping, movie theaters, and a lively night life can be found in Kailua-Kon a about 40 miles away or along the coast in resort hotels.

About 3000 miles southwest of Los Angeles, Hawai'i is the southernmost, largest, and most volcanically active of all the Hawaiian islands. The two airports serving the island are at Kona and Hilo. Students should fly to Kona (KOA).
