Jazz In Hawaii

Study and play jazz in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, the Big Island of Hawaii. Study and work with Jason Goldman and John Daversa, two of the most respected jazz educators, composers and performers in the country. 14-15 jazz instrumentalist/vocalists will be selected by audition to be part of two small groups that will work on small jazz repertoire, composing and jazz theory. Both groups will perform locally at several locations on the Big Island.

To audition for one of these groups, prepare two songs from the following list:

1) Straight, No Chaser – Thelonious Monk (F)
2) September in the Rain (Eb)
3) There Is No Greater Love (Bb)
4) Isotope – Joe Henderson
5) Yardbird Suite – Charlie Parker

Students living in Southern California should email Dr. Dan Castro at dancastro@earthlink.net to setup a live audition before February 1. Students living outside the Southern California area can send a quality DVD playing two of these selections to:

We will be looking for how well you swing, play changes and how dedicated you are to the music. All applications should be postmarked no later than March 1.

Tuition plus Room and Board    $2,000.00

Price includes transportation to and from Kona Airport. Price does not include airfare to Hawaii.
